LVM 2026: Indonesia's New Chapter in Making Campus a Volleyball Stage

For the first time when I filed a women's volleyball story, the scoreline sat at the bottom; above it was an 11-year wait for a service job. This time Indonesian campus volleyball is giving 18 women's teams an equal stage beside 18 men's teams. Liga Voli Mahasiswa (LVM) 2026, organized by media platform MOJI and streamed on VIDIO, brings 36 teams from 24 universities together for 60 matches across Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Jakarta from October 7-31, 2026. Notably, the announcement contains no tactical data, no player names and no coaching details. It is an event-management document, not a technical analysis. Yet the gaps tell a larger story. Indonesia's volleyball pyramid has a huge grassroots layer under Proliga and Livoli. LVM is a media-organized development experiment in that space. MOJI deputy programming director Banardi Rachmad calls it a national stage for young talents. The draw was held on September 25, 2026. Each gender group has six teams split into two pools of three, meaning every team plays only two pool matches before knockout—a thin sample that magnifies unpredictability. Prize money is nominal: per sector the champion gets 10 million rupiah, runner-up 7.5 million, third 5 million, fourth 2.5 million; the total is about 50 million rupiah, roughly USD 3,100. The real reward is exposure on MOJI and VIDIO. However, the field is Java-centric: all 24 universities are from Java, so calling it a 'national stage' is an overstatement. The positive design choice is equal 18/18 gender participation and equal prize money. The main risks are single-organizer dependency, undisclosed eligibility and advancement rules, and the absence of PBVSI federation alignment. Whether LVM becomes a sustainable annual franchise or a one-off festival will be decided by a second edition, federation recognition and expansion beyond Java.
