National Language Day and International Cultural Symposium: A New Dimension to Heritage
The International Cultural Symposium held on National Language Day has highlighted the close relationship between language and culture in Bangladesh and around the world. The symposium allocated space for discussion on five major themes: Kundali, colors, taste, touch, and smell.
One of the main attractions of the symposium was how life and thought processes can be completely transformed with the help of a language. The participants stated that a language is not just a collection of words; it is also a key to accessing the memory, emotion, and deep thoughts of a nation.
A strategic plan has been noticed behind the clear development of Bengali as the national language. The language use rules in educational institutions, government media, and cultural organizations are being strictly followed. However, experts have expressed concern about the stagnation of language development due to the pressure of contemporary technology.
The symposium organizers stated that online platforms for language and cultural discussions will be continued to reach the younger generation. Additionally, efforts will be made to bring local festivals to the international stage, which will increase the scope of Bangladesh’s cultural influence.
At the closing ceremony, the President, as the chief guest, stated in his speech that language is the expression of a nation’s self-democracy. Behind every word lies the story of history, struggle, and hope. Therefore, our responsibility is not just to preserve language but to discuss its values and abundance in the global community.
Representatives from 15 countries participated in the symposium. Among them, several experts presented research papers on the history and evolution of the Bengali language. They believe that technology is now not just an aid but identified as a main ingredient for preserving linguistic heritage.
The influence of language can also be noticed in the international sports arena. In global games like cricket, the prominence of local languages in content creation, commentary, and statistics is increasing. Coverage of tournaments in the local language is now more important to enhance the viewer experience and attract new audiences.
In the future, research institutions and parliamentary committees are likely to be formed to implement the decisions of this symposium. This will primarily be considered as the initial step for formulating language policy.
On the last day of the symposium, a special teaching session was held where the latest research of 2026 was presented, which stated: the condition for the vitality of a language is representation and participation. Just policy statements are not enough; instead, a living forum of language must be created at every level of society, especially through education and technology.
This symposium may bring a significant change to Bangladesh’s cultural policy. The process of creating a new legal framework for the autonomous maintenance of the language will now begin, which will be accepted along with criticism.
